EdCC I-BEST is a WebBlog devoted to tracking innovations in educational practices and materials that propel students faster and further through education towards certificates and degrees for better skills, better jobs, and better lives.
The Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training (I-BEST) initiative is based on Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) Tipping Point research that examines opportunities for populations to achieve a livable wage. The program embraces integrated and contextualized learning communities and an umbrella support system for students inside and outside of academia.
Edmonds Community College (EdCC) hosted one of the first I-BEST pilot programs in 2007 with four students in Computer Electronics and Networks. EdCC I-BEST has since grown to host 230 students in 2010-2011 within seven programs:
In 2008-2009, 93% of our students remained in school to achieve success in higher education. All of those students continuing in education have exceeded their initial intent for a smaller, short certificate and they are now pursuing larger certificates and transfer degrees.
